The inception workshop for the LDDP research and innovative sub-project ‘Nexus between Women’s Empowerment in Livestock Index and Food and Nutrition Security in Smallholder Livestock Farming in Bangladesh’ was held at the Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System meeting room in Mymensingh on Thursday.

The project was funded by World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the Department of Livestock Services, said a press release.

Paresh Kumar Sarma, principal investigator of the LDDP research and innovative sub-project, presented a keynote paper in the workshop.

He introduced a new econometric model to identify the impact of LDDP intervention on women’s empowerment and food and nutrition security in Bangladesh. 

Professor M Harun-Ar Rashid, dean (in-charge) of the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, was present as chief guest, while professor Md Abu Hadi Noor Ali Khan, former director of the Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System, professor Mohammad Jahangir Alam, former director of Institute of Agribusiness and Development Studies, Md Abdul Latif, deputy secretary, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Ali Akbar Bhuiyan, principal scientific officer, Livestock Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council and Dr ABM Mustanur Rahman, deputy project director of LDDP, were present, among others.

Professor Md Zainul Abedin, director of the Bangladesh Agricultural University Research System, chaired the event.
