Tree fair gets momentum in Khulna

KHULNA, August14, 2023 (BSS)-The Tree Fair and Campaign being held at Khulna Circuit House ground is gaining momentum.

The 15 days long tree fair started on July 27 and has been extended for another 13 days though it was supposed to end on August 10. Due to huge rush, the fair has been extended till 23 August. 

 

The tree fair has been designed with 32 stalls of tree saplings and 29 other stalls including handicraft, book stall and fast-food shops. 

A total of 41,048 different species of seedlings worth Taka 48,83,170 have been sold till yesterday, source said. 

 

Khulna district administration and Sundarban West Forest Department jointly organized the fair.  

 

A large number of nature lovers thronged the fair on Sunday while the nursery owners turned the fair ground into a fiesta of different local and foreign variety trees.

 The urban planters and gardeners are showing interest in short varieties of plants, especially early fruiting saplings. The stalls in the fair have been decorated with fruit, flower and orchid plants, adding a splash of nature to a concrete environment of the city.

Most of all, mango seedlings are being sold. Housewives prefer tubs of fruit and flower plants.

 

The price of each plant bearing fruits throughout the year is Taka 500 to 700,” Md. Chan Mia, owner of Sohag nursery said, adding that he bought different kinds of dwarf fruit plants mainly targeting the urban gardeners. 

He is also displaying moringa plants of different sizes and ages at his stall. He brought the seeds of moringa plant from India and used those to make saplings.

Nasima Khatun, a house wife of City’s Customs Ghat area told BSS, “I have bought orange plant and various flower plants. Every year, I bought fruit and flower plants for my rooftop garden.

Tania Akter, a house wife of City’s Bagmara area, said, “I have bought a moringa plant, two mango saplings and three lemon saplings from the nursery. 

The district administration sources said that the law enforcing agencies have taken adequate measures to ensure security for the traders, visitors and buyers.
