Kolhapur, October 12 : Due to abundant water and fertile land in western Maharashtra, the farmers of this region produce rich crops from agriculture. This leaves the farmers with four paise but in the last few years in Kolhapur district, due to human and natural disasters, there has been a huge loss of agriculture. This has caused a big financial crisis on the farmers of this area. Meanwhile in Marathwada, Vidarbha we used to be numb to hearing about the suicides of farmers but now even Sadan districts like Kolhapur are committing suicides as they cannot afford agriculture.
Omkar Meghan Pandit (age 26), a farmer from Vengrul in Kolhapur district, committed suicide by hanging himself due to debt. The incident took place on Monday afternoon. For the past several years, the farmers of western Maharashtra were earning their living from agricultural production, but it is seen that the agriculture of the farmers in this region is also losing. A 26-year-old youth has committed suicide in the district.

According to information received, Omkar was engaged in farming. It was his tractor. He was in financial trouble due to loans taken for agriculture and tractors and money borrowed from Hatus. He was under great mental stress. On Monday, he had gone home saying that he goes to a farm temple called ‘Malav’.

He committed suicide by hanging himself in a room in the temple premises. As he did not return home after two hours, a search was conducted and his body was found hanging in the temple room.

His cousin Vijay Pandit has given this information to the Bhudargarh police. He is survived by his mother, father, wife and one year old son.
