In a statement, President, KCCI Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad and KCCI officials said they were deeply concerned that hundreds of trucks carrying apples were stranded on national roads, particularly near the 20 km stretch from Qazigund to Banihal.

“The government must effectively find a way out as the apple harvest is now gaining momentum with each passing day. Any further delay in resolving the issue could hit Kashmir’s economy, which is largely dependent on the apple trade, severely. This is the peak fruit season in Kashmir and this is the first time we’ve seen this mess on the national highway.”
