Awami League Presidium Member and the country’s agriculture minister Dr Abdur Razzaque on Monday said that no force can foil the upcoming national elections in the country.
“No forces will be able to thwart the election. The next elections will be free and fair under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
Razzaque said this while addressing at the inaugural ceremony of five lakhs of saplings distribution and plantation organized by local lawmaker ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury at Raozan Government College field in Chattogram on Monday.
“BNP is trying to create anarchy and disorder ahead of the elections in the country and their movement and terrorism will be tackled at any cost,” the AL leader said.
The agriculture minister said the next national elections will be held under Prime Minister Sheikh and the law enforcers will take action if anyone goes for violence.
“Awami League (AL) is a well-organized and powerful party and it (AL) has the ability of facing the BNP and AL is ready to face them (BNP),” the AL leader said.
Regarding the dialogue with the BNP, the agriculture minister said, “The BNP will have to recognize–they will join the elections in line with the constitution under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina—before sitting at dialogue,”
Dialogue can be held with the BNP on free and fair elections but must not on caretaker government issues, the AL presidium member said.
Urging all to come forward to plant saplings, he said world politicians, civil societies, scientists and others stressed the need for reduction of temperature and tree plantation.
Razzaque said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina turned the tree plantation into a social movement and all will have to plant more saplings.
Lawmaker Fazle Karim said 20 lakhs of saplings were planted under his constituency in the last 10 years.
This year, five lakhs of fruit and wood saplings will be planted, he said.
Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzman, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdus Samad Shikdar and Raozan Upazila Parishad Chairman Ehsanur Haider Chowdhury among others spoke at the event.
